Introduction

Geometry, from Greek meaning ‘land measurement’, is the branch of mathematics that focuses on the study of shapes, objects, and spaces. It plays an important role in understanding the properties and relationships of these elements, including concepts such as distance, curvature, and position (relative and absolute).

History

Studying geometry has the same purpose as it did with the Ancient Greeks: to reflect upon the real world and physical relationships between objects, so that we can solve problems. The earliest recorded findings of geometry traces back to 2,000 BC in Mesopotamia (Pre-Babylonian or otherwise called ‘The Far East’) and Egypt where it had practical applications in measurement, construction, and astronomy.

Traveling to Babylon and Egypt was of interest to many mathematically-minded philosophers from Ancient Greece (600 BC) until schools would become established and Euclid (300 BC) would release Elements,
